What is the purpose of the Wellness Committee?
The Wellness Committee is a group of school staff and non-district members that implement the
Wellness School Board Policy to allow the school district to promote good nutrition and
regular physical ability that affect the health and well-being of the District's school students.
The research suggests that there is a positive correlation between a student's health
and well-being and his/her ability to learn.
In accordance with the USDA's National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs,
the district provides education and nutritional items to the students to excel.
USDA's Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program
Two times a week during the school year, the USDA Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program is used at Paint Valley Local Schools for the elementary students. This program provides taste testing of vegetables and fruits and introduces many new vegetables and fruits. Many of the students are trying these items for the first time.
The students are also educated about the vegetable or fruit they are taste testing.
Currently Paint Valley Local Schools is the only school district in Ross County doing this government funded program.
Staying in Compliance with the Laws
The Wellness Committee also ensures that the district is serving and vending the proper foods to students according to USDA federal laws and the State of Ohio Health Department regulations. We also oversee the implementation of any gardening or hydroponic systems in the district.
SUMMER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES FOR THE
DISTRICT WELLNESS POLICY
The students attending summer school will be the first to maintain the container garden that was installed outside of the elementary building.
This garden currently contains tomatoes, cucumbers. kale, spinach, lettuce, radish, peppers and flowers.
Menu Planning
The district uses school organizations to help the cafeteria plan school meals.
For the '25-'26 school year, we used the Fifth Grade Leadership group and the High School PAVE group. The students learn about the required components, the nutritional values and the ordering behind the planning for the breakfast and lunch menus for a month.
